GLMPI is applying to provide programming for both Memorial Day Weekend and the gap timeframe of June 6-26th. Funding will allow us to give free tickets to families to attend our Little Mermaid Screening. We are also asking for support to expand our Sankofa Moments in partnership with Excel Academy located in Englewood. This effort intentionally targets young adults who are likely to participate in trends where youth gather downtown. We will expose the Excel student body to community partners, artists, and direct service providers to create intergenerational block-party style gatherings that aim to bring unity, fun, healing and mutual aid relief. Dean Ricardo Waddy and the Excel staff will work in collaboration with GLMPI staff.

Grants funds will be used to amplify our current after-school programming and expand it to young people not traditionally afforded this opportunity. As we expand the game of chess throughout Chicago, we would love for every member of our club to own chess sets, chess clocks, chess notation, and tactical training books so they can share their love of the game with family members and those in their communities. We also want to be able to pay for our stormers United States Chess Federation Membership fees, as well as tournament registration fees. Additionally, ASAC looks forward to growing our workforce development program where we will train highschool teens to be mentors and paid coaches for our K-8 students.

Simply Destinee was founded by a brother/sister duo who after the loss of a loved one to suicide realized many of the needs of the youth in our community. Our primary focus is to inspire students to take charge of their lives and use proactive tools to help with mental health challenges. Simply Destinee's programs focuses on helping young people develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed in school, the workplace, and life. It's primary focus is teach students the tips and tricks to overcome everyday challenge. This may includes mentorship and guidance to help young people set and achieve goals, building relationships with local businesses to provide job shadowing, community service, college readiness and workforce development opportunities. Seeds offers workshops to develop these skills such as resume writing, interview techniques, and financial literacy. These workshops are aside from the peer mentoring and access to using the arts as a tool to showcase their expression in a positive light. Funds requested to support program development, hiring staff and mentors, providing materials and resources, and covering operating expenses. By investing in youth programs, Simply Destinee has been able to make a significant impact on the lives of young people, helping them to realize their potential and achieve their goals.
