Over the next 12-18 months, MPC, in partnership with Urban Institute is advancing original research that quantifies impacts of the Chicago zoning code on equity, sustainability, and health – which will be assessed through the application of the Phase One derived methodology. Assessment results will be informed by neighborhood-level conversations that help connect the citywide assessment to on-the-ground realities. Steering Committee members and other partners will remain active and engaged in assessment and willing to use the results to advocate for zoning and land use policy and practice changes.

By providing disinvested communities with access to quality employment, Cara Collective opens the door to economic progress. Our flagship social enterprise Cleanslate is a neighborhood beautification business that gives adults with the heaviest barriers to employment a real second chance. In September 2023, Cleanslate opened its f newly purchased 11,000-square-foot center located in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood. In addition to bringing its exterior maintenance services to the surrounding corridors, Cleanslate seeks to utilize its positive, intentional, and collaborative presence in its new neighborhood. Support from We Rise Together will help us ensure that Cleanslate workers will not only have access to quality employment through jobs that pay a living wage; they will also receive training and comprehensive wraparound coaching support to ensure long-term success. These programmatic innovations will enable us to turn our space in Englewood into a hub for true transformations, while allowing us to provide more training workshops and supportive services directly to residents on the Southside of Chicago.
