    Talented Tenth College Prepatory Career Mentoring Organization

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,000

    The Talented Tenth College Prep. partners with the 17th Ward to celebrate Memorial Day with the Veterans at 77th and Emerald. This grant opportunity will give us the opportunity to grow this special day with more blocks within the community. We sponsor this event to help our youth and elders build better relationships. This opportunity will help us recruit more youth for our regular program and will help us to get more of our young men some landscaping and gardening skills. This grant will help us to provide more quality bands that will attract more teens. We will utilize the other half of the grant to kick start our regular program early to meet the gap week when CPS closes and the Park District opens. This is a program we do every summer when our youth builds a relationshi with the elders (next door to our garden).

    City of Refuge - Chicago

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,000

    This request is for BOTH Memorial Day Weekend Programming as well as expanding existing programming in June. Currently, City of Refuge - Chicago offers sports-based youth development at 7 westside parks. For the purpose of this request, we would focus on expanding existing programming at Columbus Park and Franklin Park. Currently, we offer programming at Columbus Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm and at Franklin Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays also from 6-8pm. At Columbus Park, we would add time to the Thursday programming time through the addition of a meal and mentoring time. We would also add an additional hour to Franklin Park programming on Thursdays. For Columbus Park only, we would add an additional programming day inviting all program participants (currently 285).

    LOVE TO SERVE INCORPORATED

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,000

    The purpose of this grant request is to support emergency programming on Saturday, May 27 and from June 7th through June 22 at the Salvation Army Kroc Center. We will service 45 youth ages 13 through 18 years old's from Roseland and West Pullman communities.

    700 N Christiana Avenue Block Club

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $2,500

    We are the 600 and 700 N. Christiana Avenue Block Club with a Fiscal Sponsor -p the West Humboldt Park Development Council. We will recruit membership for a Junior Block Club. On Memorial Day Weekend Saturday we will host a neighbor meet and greet, an all block cleanup, tree decorating, and placing positive messaging signs throughout the block. We will be door knocking and engaging our neighbors with a community improvement survey as well. Plus we will serve pizza and lemonade from 12PM-4PM.

    83rd Street Block Club

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $2,500

    The 83rd and Elizabeth Block Club will Host a Memorial Day Movie Matinee at Studio Movie Grill for our Community Families and Children. This will be for all ages and 40 Children and Families We will buy Movie Tickets, Refreshments and transport. Clean Green & Ice Cream This is an initiative.to create a Clean and safe environment on the block. Ages 11 to 18 years and 30 Children. We will buy everything needed for landscaping and cleaning the Alleyway. Buy Ice Crean and Treats.

    Project Impact 180

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,000

    Project Impact 180 will use the funds to expand our program to fulfill the programming gap for Chicago Youth during Memorial Day weekend and activate community spaces (blocks, community gardens, and parks) on a weekly basis to engage youth and families. We propose to host a Memorial Day event on Friday; and the following enrichment activities Tripp Block Party, Lego Day Contest, and North Lawndale's Got Talent.

    Chasing23 Youth Empowerment Group

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $3,500

    We intend to use this fund to support our outreach and recruitment efforts for our summer health wellness program. Our plan is to work with teens and young adults to engage in street outreach during memorial day weekend and following selective days. This outreach effort will specifically take place during evenings and weekends. Our organization has the capacity to train teens and young adults in outreach and organizing best practices. In groups outreach teams will engage with youth residents through a web-based platform to register youth to participate in summer health and wellness programming. During outreach efforts, youth residents will be given care packages with essential health and wellness items. Funds will be used to compensate workers for their time and to purchase outreach supplies and materials.

    Urban Male Network

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,000

    Urban Male Network (UMN) will utilize the funds to plan an event Memorial weekend and during the gap time between CPS ending and Park District (June 6 - 26). UMN plans to rent out a movie theater to watch a movie, take a trip to sky zone, host a kickback with video games and music, and a paintball outing.
