    Hands Around the Hundreds

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $3,500

    Hands Around the Hundreds would like to request funds to extend the summer basketball tournaments to start Memorial Day Weekend. We will host the tournament on Saturday, and on Monday, the 29th, we will host final games and a community resource fair. This event will be the start of our Summer Basketball Program. We will recruit youth from previous programs to form six teams for the weekend. The program will continue with 10 teams through out the summer.

    New Life International Church

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,000

    In partnership with Duke Ellington Elementary School, 15th District CPD Hip Hop Tuesday Non-violence program, Parkside block club, its friends, westside Sports and Chicago Park District, New Life International Church, and its affiliates will host joint events. We will have an open mic using local talent and a local DJ in collaboration. We intended to have peace circles at Catholic Charities. We want to host movie nights at the District location to show comedy and historical films. We want a book reading night at the District along with Arts and Crafts.

    Ase Holistic House NFP

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,000

    Ase Holistic House seeks additional funds to create a "gear up" event for summer jobs. Youth will engage in a two week long pre-work job readiness program. Ase Holistic House has the capacity to extend our summer job programming starting on June 12th. We currently have 58 students signed up and have the capacity and staffing to extend or summer programming. In addition, we will host a safe summer bash for the Memorial Day weekend.

    Englewood First Responders

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $2,500

    Englewood First Responders proposes to a Peace Day event over Memorial Day weekend. This event will be hosted in the open parking lot space and park behind Shepherd’s Hope located at 838 W Marquette Rd, Chicago, IL 60621. We propose to conduct the following activities: 1. Food and Refreshments – Englewood First Responders will provide hot dogs and chips for all community members who attend Peace Day. 2. Games and Recreational Activities – EFR will provide outdoor games for youth including basketball, arts & crafts, and a variety of outdoor games. 3. Peace Day Activity – Each youth attendee will be asked to paint a rock of what peace means to them. Painted rocks will be displayed throughout the day's activities and then utilized in an existing or new community garden. The purpose of this activity is to promote a sense of community with attendees, while also providing positive activities for youth to participate in while they are not in school.

    ULON

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,000

    Our organization proposes a Memorial Day Extravaganza Saturday, May 27th from 10 AM - 4PM at the ULON Resource Center. The event will engage the Greater Grand Crossing community with music, food, live entertainment, and family fun activities (face painting, bouncy houses, art), and giveaways. Registeration for youth programming - Recruit youth for summer programming - Provide community resources Also, ULON's Custom Thread Project (Youth Programming) The project provides hands-on fashion design and clothing upcycling. The pillars includes basic sewing, t-shirt sublimations, heat press garments, hand painting fabric, and introduction to Canva design software. On the 24th we will conclude the project with ceremony and fashion show on the 24th. Dates: June 8th, 13th, 15th, 20th, 22nd,( very Tuesday and Thursday between June 8th -24th)

    ANSWER INC

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,400

    The Answer Inc’s Workforce Development Program (TAWD) was established to provide persons with disabilities the opportunity to obtain job readiness, vocational skills, long-term employment and self-sufficiency. Our targeted area is the Proviso Township and the Austin and Garfield communities. Participants will participate in pre-assessment, career exploration and case management as they learn work readiness and soft skills which are necessary personal, interpersonal, and professional capabilities for the individual to gain and maintain employment. These skills will help those looking for work find job opportunities. For those already working, skills acquired in our program will help them advance in their careers. Expenditures will include: promotion of the program, mailings, and materials for surveys, printing and assembling of The Answer’s training package, pens, paper, and training handouts for the curriculum that is covered. Participants with limited financial funds and barriers to reliable transportation will be assisted through the ongoing partnership between The Answer and a local cab company who charges a nominal fee, to transport our clients. We propose to work with employers to create a fully accessible workplace with commitment from all levels, to ensure their doors are open—literally and figuratively—to all qualified candidates, including people with disabilities.

    South Austin Neighborhood Association

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $3,500

    The South Austin Neighborhood Association will provide the youth of Austin with a fun and educational experience celebrating their heritage while enjoying the amenity of the 29th Ward Veterans Peace Garden with the program "Black Excellence: Movies in the Park." SANA will show a different film with a prominent African-American influence through its writers, directors, and actors in the Veterans Peace Garden on a recurring schedule coinciding with a major holiday over the summer months. Each presentation will have a different theme to correlate to the holiday. For example, for Memorial Day, the theme will be Black Excellence: Movies in the Park - African-Americans in the military. For the Juneteenth weekend, the theme will be Black Achievement. Films will be selected to highlight the theme and educate and entertain the viewers on the topic. SANA will provide refreshments and allow opportunities for discussion and fellowship along with the viewing of the film.

    Voices of Youth Ensemble

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $3,500

    Memorial Day Weekend Celebration During the Memorial Day weekend, the Voices of Youth Ensemble has the compacity and the staff to expand our program for twenty-five youths ages 8 to 17. The weekend program will include a lock-in at the Galewood CUCC. The youth and their parents can stay two nights at the church. We will provide a weekend of team-building games, movies, table game activities, singing, bowling, skating, hiking, swimming excursions, family-style meals, and a trip to a famous restaurant. On Sunday we will attend church services and sing praises, afterward, we will have a barbeque & picnic. The youth will play games, have relay races, listen to music and have a fun day on the church lawn.
