-A Day Off The Block- Some kids from the Westside of Chicago have never been downtown; a Major League Baseball game Cubs or Sox, and an amusement park. My neighbor, Mr. Larry Gardner is the Dean of Students at Laura Ward Stem School located at 636 N Lawndale Ave. We plan on renting a school buses and taking a group students to Cubs game, Sox game, and Great America Amusement Park. We will ask a few parents to chaperone and show the kids more of what Chicago has to offer when you leave your block. We want these events to be a full day of fun that does not burden families with any additional expenses. We are hoping to provide transportation, tickets, and meals for these outings.

The South Side Jazz Coalition is a live music production and community service organization, and we request funding to present a live performance concert featuring young performers between the ages of 10 to 25. We believe music heals and that presenting a free program featuring the youth of our communities will help to alleviate the stigma of criminality that is being attributed to all young people of color. The concert will be held at Compassion Baptist Church located in southeast Chicago on Saturday June 10 or Saturday June 17. This evening will feature spoken word, dance and live music performance by performers from collaborating grassroots organizations.

Every June, the Chicago Chess Foundation hosts an All-Girls Chess Tournament for girls from kindergarten through 8th grade. This tournament draws 75-100 girls and their families from across Chicago to participate in a full-day-long chess tournament. On June 10th we will host this All-Girls tournament in the Albany Park neighborhood so that our female youth have empowering and safe activities to do on the weekend between school getting out and Park District camps starting. This will be our 5th year hosting this event, but this year we will be engaging high school-aged girls through our partners at Queens United Chess, a youth-run organization focused on girls' empowerment through chess, who will help us run the event for the day. The event will feature free food (breakfast and lunch) for participants and their families, 5 rounds of competitive chess, a creative activities room, an art and dance room, an auction, a visit from female chess masters, and an awards ceremony. We are expecting participants from partner schools of ours in Humboldt Park, Englewood, Gage Park, East Side, Garfield Park, Marquette Park, and other neighborhoods and will be partnering with fellow Safe and Peaceful grantees, A Step Ahead Chess, to engage even more girls this year than ever.

The Urban Warriors will be having consistent programming for our youth throughout the summer. We have been building capacity throughout the year to make sure our Travel Baseball Program, All Girls Soccer, and Yoga serve our young people. Our organization will have daily programming at Piotrowski Park and La Villita Park starting June 15th. We have built a coach/mentor base of over 12 individuals from within the community of Little Village. We currently capped the All-Girls Soccer program at 80 girls due to the shortage of funds for equipment needs. The opportunity we are applying for will be used to increase the All-Girls Soccer program by 20 girls.

All-In-Together summer camp aiming to provide an opportunity for parents and children to learn coding and robotics together, while also strengthening family bonds. The key community goal of the camp is to reduce the amount of idle time that children spend on the streets, with the aim of making the streets of Chicago safer. To achieve this goal, the camp provides a structured learning environment where children can develop new skills and engage in productive activities. The coding workshop at AIT camp will focus on creating an interactive mini-website highlighting a beautiful attribute of the city. The site will include video and javascript animation, and will serve as a culminating artifact for the summer camp. Similarly, the robotics workshop will focus on building a robotic utility that helps advance the technological ability of an underserved community in Chicago. By participating in the AIT camp, families can contribute to the initiative of a safer Chicago while also developing new skills and strengthening their relationships with one another.
