Jennifer S Fallick Cancer Support Center

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,000

At The Cancer Support Center, we know that art is not only the window into the soul, but is also an engaging activity to heal broken hearts and stressed minds as new works of art are created. For us, the outcome of the art process is not the necessary outcome, but the transformation of making the art piece itself. Now, following the pandemic, is the time to heal and bring together our county while using art as the tool to accomplish that. The Center is requesting a grant to support a multi-faceted, dynamic series of quarterly interactive art programs where all community members will be invited to attend, learn, and create. All of this amazing art will culminate in an art exposition for all of Will County called Art of Hope & Healing.

    Farmworker and Landscaper Advocacy Project

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $5,000

On account of language, culture, and trust obstacles, it can be difficult to communicate with low-income Latinx immigrant workers and families in Will County. This came into even greater focus during the pandemic, leaving families vulnerable to homelessness, hunger, and contagion. FLAP, a trusted advocate for Latinx immigrant workers, seeks to do outreach and educate them on the importance of COVID-19 vaccination and also make emergency payments to families struggling to cover rent, utilities, grocery, and other basic needs. Helping the community survive is not only the right thing to do, but because many Latinxs work in the food industry, preventing them from illness, homelessness, and hunger will strengthen the food supply chain.
