Our Grantmaking Strategy

For more than 100 years, The Chicago Community Trust has convened, supported, funded, and accelerated the work of community members and changemakers committed to strengthening the Chicago region. From building up our civic infrastructure to spearheading our response to the Great Recession, the Trust has brought our community together to face pressing challenges and seize our greatest opportunities. North Lawndale Employment Network

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $175,000

North Lawndale Employment Network (NLEN) is pleased to submit this proposal to We Rise Together to build the capacity of our job readiness training program, U-Turn Permitted, and build capacity to develop occupational skills training opportunities and career pathways in high-demand industries for returning residents and others facing high barriers to employment. Project funding will support our strengths-based programming that serves returning residents and residents facing significant barriers to employment, bolstering their determination to build the soft and hard skills that lead to quality job attainment and advancement in high-demand industries. We began our occupational skills training programming with our Moving Forward program, which leverages employer partners and industry experts to offer training and certification in the Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics (TDL) industry. We have since expanded our skills training, career pathway development, and placement opportunities to include the Healthcare, Hospitality, Manufacturing, and Construction industries.
