    South Shore Chamber Community Development Corporation

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $50,000

    The South Shore Chamber of Commerce is seeking a grant in the amount of $50,000 to continue strengthening its organizational infrastructure and to optimally position the organization to be a stronger collaborator and steward of additional investments that will help to stabilize South Shore. CCT's direct capacity building funding support and the engagement with the University of Chicago's Community Programs Accelerator will help the SSCC to continue building organizational strength through adopting new policies, enhancing board engagement, fiscal management improvements and leadership development for staff. In addition to maintaining its core offerings, SSCC, in partnership with the South Shore Chamber Community Development Corporation, will continue development of: • Seeding South Shore Impact Fund - provides early stage capital for entrepreneurs that have made South Shore their community of choice • Community Investment Vehicle (CIV) - a community-lead real estate investment entity designed to encourage shared community ownership, and expand investment knowledge amongst residents • Place-based Development Initiatives - develop place-based neighborhood revitalization strategies that pair public and philanthropic resources to address community needs, disparities and unlock private investment The SSCC has partnered with two other South Shore based organizations to form the South Shore Compact resulting in three community-based organizations serving three different constituencies touching every aspect of life in South Shore. The support of the CNI grant will allow us to continue strengthening this model to serve as a collective voice for South Shore and advance the goal of an improved quality of life for its residents.

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $100,000

    Far South Community Development Corporation (Far South CDC) is seeking to launch a Supplier Diversity and Procurement Pilot Program on Chicago's far south side and south suburban Cook County. The program seeks to reduce/eliminate the barriers between corporation and government supplier diversity and procurement programs and opportunities for BIPOC-led companies/organizations. Additionally, the pilot program will explore different self-sustaining business models and provide a match-making service between corporate/government to BIPOC-led companies/organizations.

    Green Era Educational NFP

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $2,000,000

    Green Era (GE) is uniquely positioned to transform ILs’ clean energy economy. The Auburn-Gresham neighborhood needs a sustainable economic engine that can create jobs and serve as a hub for the new Green Economy. The GE Model closes the loop between organic waste, renewable energy, and local food production: a circular economy reduces waste and saves precious resources. Comprehensive and community based, GE’s solution connects local farmers and proven green technology to cultivate equitable access to fresh food, engage the community, and revitalize both the neighborhood and the greater economic outlook.

    Founders First Community Development Corporation Inc

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $150,000

    Founders First CDC (FFCDC) is a community development organization and small business accelerator addressing the huge disparity in revenue and job growth by small businesses led by underrepresented owners. We work with community partners to help minorities, women and veteran-owned businesses grow their businesses and impact the economy through job growth. Seasoned professionals provide one-on-one mentoring, skills training, and an established curriculum to help participants build a customized growth and funding plan. FFCDC programs conclude with competitive pitch presentations with professional judges, allowing business owners to showcase their growth plans and advance to a higher level of support and resources.

    The Chicago Community Foundation/Elevated Chicago

    Awarded: Awarded Amount: $250,000

    Elevated Chicago is a collaboration that unlocks the potential of transit stations to connect people and attract development that is racially equitable in terms of climate resilience, and health and cultural indicators. In partnership with local community-based organizations, Elevated Chicago seeks to turn the 1/2-mile radius around transit stations into community-focused centers of commerce and culture by: removing barriers that hinder innovation near station areas; equipping residents with resources to make these areas a community and civic priority; and aligning, cultivating, and deploying capital for development near transit stations, to become areas where the built environment and programming converge to create nodes of connection and opportunity.
