African American Legacy (AAL) is accepting applications for its 2025 grant cycle beginning Monday, April 14, 2025. 
 
This is an open call RFP opportunity. Organizations based in the City of Chicago, Cook County, and the five collar counties (Will, Lake, DuPage, McHenry, and Kane) that have a focus on Community Wealth Building, Community Mobilization, and Community Care (see the full RFP for more details) are invited to apply. 
  
Community Wealth Building Applicants Only: Grants under this priority area will range from $50,000 to $75,000 based on the scope of the applicant’s general operations or project-based needs. There is no operating budget limit under this priority area; however we encourage your requested amount to be consistent with your budget. 

Community Mobilization and Community Care Applicants Only: Grants under these priority areas will range from $15,000 to $25,000 based on the scope of the applicant’s general operations or project-based needs. Eligible organizations must have current and prior year annual operating budgets that are between $50,000 and $2 million.

Grantmaking in Chicago

Since its founding in 2003 as an initiative of The Chicago Community Trust, African American Legacy (AAL) has granted nearly $4 million to numerous nonprofit organizations with innovative ideas for impact. AAL provides support to nonprofit organizations that work at the grassroots level to educate and engage communities, and to provide neighborhood-based services and solutions addressing community problems.
