Where We Are Now

Jessica Bryar was a passionate advocate for children and families. As Chief in the Civil Division of the Cook County Public Defender’s office, Jessica represented the needs of people navigating the court’s child protection and mental health divisions—and served as an inspiring, generous mentor to the office’s new attorneys.

Jessica passed away in February 2019 of acute myeloid leukemia. Her friends and family have established the Jessica Bryar Legacy Fund, a donor advised fund at The Chicago Community Foundation, in her memory and her honor. Through the Fund, Jessica’s profound legacy of compassion will continue.
