2019 is off and running. If you made any New Year’s resolutions, maybe you’re keeping up with them in hopes of transforming how you eat, exercise or work. But what about how you give?

If you haven’t set goals for your charitable giving in 2019, here are four simple resolutions with the potential to transform your social impact.

Resolution 1: Get connected.

Take advantage of what the Trust has to offer by talking with your relationship manager for assistance. As a donor advised fund holder, you have a relationship manager who is ready to help build your knowledge of the nonprofit landscape, increase your impact through collaborative grant making opportunities or assist with estate and succession planning. Plus, they’ll keep you up-to-date on our donor events and educational opportunities.

Not sure who your relationship manager is? Just call anyone on the Development and Donor Services team to get you started.

Resolution 2: Be proactive.

Focus on the causes that are most important to you, then reflect on the kind of impact you’re hoping to make. Your donor advised fund simplifies record-keeping by tracking your fund activity in Instant Impact. Review your giving history—either on your own, or together with your relationship manager—to identify patterns or potential opportunities. Then, when you’re clear about your priorities, your relationship manager can create a list of charities that fit your interests and can put your donation to work to meet your goals.

Resolution 3: Give more.

Once you know your 2018 giving total, resolve to increase your giving for 2019. Keep in mind that with a donor advised fund, increasing the amount and frequency of contributions into your fund will allow you to increase the dollars granted out to your favorite causes. Set your new goal, and enjoy giving generously to the organizations you care about.

Resolution 4: Cut the strings.

Consider earmarking more of your donations in 2019 for general operating support. These unrestricted dollars allow organizations the flexibility to respond to current emergencies and meet the evolving needs of our community.

Whatever resolution you make, taking the time to plan will reward you with a deeper sense of pride, satisfaction and confidence. You’ll spend 2019 knowing that your donations are making a meaningful impact on the issues and communities that are important to you.
