Abbe Temkin is director of major and planned gifts for The Chicago Community Trust, joining the Trust in 2013. She is responsible for a broad range of matters including charitable contributions, donor advised funds, supporting organizations and agency endowments. She works closely with the Trust’s Professional Advisory Committee and Young Professional Advisory Committee to provide resources and expertise to help meet their clients’ philanthropic goals.
Before coming to the Trust, Temkin served as director of individual giving for The University of Chicago Medicine and Biological Sciences and earlier as director of development for the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science. Previously, she spent many years as a consultant with CCS Fundraising, where she was western regional director for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and served clients including the Jewish Agency for Israel, the International Code Council and the Nature Conservancy of Wisconsin.
Temkin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Western Michigan University and a JD from The John Marshall School of Law. She was a practicing trial attorney for many years before transitioning full time into the field of development. Today Temkin sits on the board of directors for Chicago Women in Philanthropy, Rebecca’s Dream and PersonalPAC, and is a member of the Chicago Estate Planning Council, the Chicago Council for Planned Giving and the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She has served as a volunteer leader in marathon and half-marathon training for the Chicago Area Runners Association since 1999.
