Building Stronger Latino Communities

The Latino Giving Circle (LGC) is a philanthropic and educational vehicle designed by Latinos to improve the quality of life for Latino communities throughout metropolitan Chicago. As a donor advised fund of The Chicago Community Trust, LGC encourages interested individuals to pool their charitable dollars, thereby increasing the resources available to Latino communities in metropolitan Chicago. LGC supports established or emerging nonprofit organizations that effectively address issues and needs facing Latino communities. Some sectors of the community that may receive funding include education, immigration, legal and health care services. Contributions support projects that help Latinos access the tools and resources necessary to build stronger families and communities.

In the Spotlight

Classroom at Juarez Community Academy

At Benito Juarez Community Academy, graduation rates rose from 59% to 72% within two years. From 2001 to 2011, Latino Education Alliance worked in Chicago public high schools, including Juarez, to achieve results like these through parent involvement and intensive academic support. The Latino Giving Circle's support helped LEA expand its program and design evaluation tools to better serve Latino students.

Counseling at Latinos Progresando

Support from LGC has helped Latinos Progresando place college within reach. Latino youth are taken on college tours, assisted with accessing financial aid and equipped with the skills to succeed in a university setting. Students in the program have gone on to attend four-year universities, including Yale University, the University of Notre Dame and the University of Chicago.
