Creating a Connected Community where All Learning Counts

Connected learning is an approach that weaves together students’ personal interests, the support of friends and adult mentors, and academic or career relevance. To advance connected learning in our community, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation established Hive Chicago—a professional network of local organizations supporting thousands of young learners—as well as the Chicago City of Learning, which uses digital tools to expand learning beyond schools and forge alternative pathways to career and college success. Housed at the Trust, The Chicago Hive Fund for Connected Learning provides the funding to mobilize this important work across Chicago.


The RFP-based grant process opens twice each year, to support collaborative projects developed by Hive Chicago Learning Network member organizations. Learn more at
